An international phase III prevention trial called PrevenTRON is recruiting about 1,600 people aged 55 to 80 with no memory problems to test whether an experimental drug can stop Alzheimer's disease before symptoms ever appear. Volunteers are screened with a blood test for p-tau217, a marker whose highest levels have been linked to a 78% chance of cognitive impairment within 10 years.
