Pooled results from 23 randomised trials in 1,184 adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity found aerobic exercise better at lowering fasting blood glucose and raising cardiorespiratory fitness, while resistance training was better at preserving fat-free mass and keeping body fat down. For most other cardiometabolic outcomes, including blood lipids, the two styles performed similarly.
