Polluted air at home is tied to a 12% higher risk of dying from any cause

People exposed to household air pollution had a 12% higher risk of death from any cause and a 13% higher risk of cardiovascular death across pooled studies. Deaths from respiratory disease, stroke and cancer trended upward too, without reaching statistical significance.

For you: A reason to take the air inside your home seriously as a health factor, alongside the usual suspects of diet, exercise and sleep.

What it shows: A consistent pattern but not proof of cause: results pooled from 17 studies that followed people rather than testing anything on them, so other differences between households could explain part of the link.Meta-analysis · Environ Sci Pollut Res Int
