PCOS weight gain is not about eating more, pooled data suggest

Across pooled studies, women with PCOS consumed similar calories, carbohydrate, fat and protein to women without the condition. The gaps were elsewhere: slightly poorer diet quality, less magnesium, more dietary cholesterol and lower total physical activity, despite less alcohol.

What it shows: Trustworthy as a description, not an explanation: pooled results from 54 studies of 39,471 women, but researchers tracked habits rather than testing anything, so it cannot say why weight gain is more common in PCOS. Several measures also varied a lot from study to study.Meta-analysis · Hum Reprod Update
