Kegels plus biofeedback and stimulation cut postpartum leaks by almost two-thirds
Across 29 randomised trials, women within a year of giving birth who added electrical stimulation and biofeedback to standard pelvic floor training had fewer cases of stress incontinence, stronger pelvic muscles and better sexual function than those doing the exercises alone. The incontinence result carried the most consistent evidence of the lot.
For you: If postpartum leaks are on your radar, worth knowing that clinic-based add-ons to Kegels showed a real edge over the exercises alone, though nearly all the evidence so far comes from China.
What it shows: Strong for leak prevention, weaker elsewhere: this pools 29 trials in which women were assigned at random, and while the incontinence result earned moderate confidence, the strength, sexual function and prolapse findings rest on lower-quality evidence and every trial was run in China.Systematic review · Front Physiol
