Six grams of fibre in a drink cuts the carb glucose spike by about 20%
Resistant maltodextrin, a soluble fibre that dissolves into drinks without ruining them, attenuated the blood glucose response to rice, noodles, bread and other starchy foods across 37 trials. The effect was dose-dependent, and roughly halved when the fibre was mixed directly into the food rather than a drink.
What it shows: Convincing for the short-term marker: results pooled from 37 trials in healthy adults show blunted glucose spikes, not better long-term health. Some of the included studies came from industry-affiliated authors, though the analysis found no sign this skewed the result.Meta-analysis · Am J Clin Nutr
