In a systematic review and meta-analysis covering more than 4.2 million people, high physical activity was linked to a 20% lower risk of all-cause dementia over 10 years, with leisure-time exercise such as walking, running, swimming and cycling showing a similar pattern. Occupational physical activity, by contrast, was associated with a 20% higher dementia risk.
