GLA and fish oil supplements do nothing measurable for eczema

Across placebo-controlled trials, gamma-linolenic acid barely moved overall eczema severity and fish oil moved it not at all. Itch, scaling and thickened skin fared no better on the supplements than on placebo.

For you: If you buy fatty acid capsules hoping to settle eczema, this pooled evidence says your money is doing nothing for your skin.

What it shows: Strong evidence of nothing: results pooled from 11 placebo-controlled trials of gamma-linolenic acid and three of fish oil found no meaningful improvement in eczema severity. The search only runs to 2002, so more recent trials are not covered.Meta-analysis · Br J Dermatol
