Probiotics may take the edge off athlete fatigue
Across 13 blinded, placebo-controlled trials, most reported some benefit from daily probiotics: less perceived fatigue, fewer gut complaints, fewer upper respiratory infections or better endurance. Maximal oxygen uptake did not budge, and the strains and doses tested varied widely.
What it shows: Early and uneven: a sweep of 13 blinded, placebo-controlled trials covering 513 people found benefits in ten, but the strains, doses and tests differed too much to pool the numbers, and most participants were men.Systematic review · J Int Soc Sports Nutr
