We put cottage cheese through an evidence check – and the health claims didn’t stack up

A review found no published studies directly testing whether cottage cheese builds muscle, improves body composition or drives weight loss; the current hype rests on what is known about protein in general. Cottage cheese is high in protein relative to its fat and calorie content compared with many other cheeses.

For you: Cottage cheese remains a decent high-protein, lower-fat food; just know the muscle and fat-loss hype comes from protein research in general, not from any study of cottage cheese itself.

What it shows: Reported by The Conversation (UK health) and not verified by us: we could not trace this story to a published paper, so treat it as news rather than evidence we have checked.
