Lifting weights for about an hour a week was linked to a 27% lower risk of dying
Any resistance training at all was associated with a 15% lower risk of death from any cause across pooled studies. The strongest link sat near 60 minutes per week, and doing much more appeared to erode the benefit rather than extend it.
For you: A reason to think a modest weekly dose of lifting covers the longevity link; piling on far more volume was not associated with a bigger benefit.
What it shows: Strong for this kind of evidence, but it still tracks lifters rather than tests lifting: results pooled from 10 studies that followed non-clinical adults over time, so healthier people may simply lift more. The finding about the ideal weekly dose came from just 4 of those studies.Meta-analysis · Am J Prev Med
