The amino acid tyrosine is linked to shorter lives in men

Health records and genetic analysis both tie higher circulating tyrosine to a shorter lifespan in men, with the genetic estimate at 0.91 fewer years of life, while phenylalanine showed no independent link. In women the association was smaller and could not be separated from no effect at all.

For you: Nothing to change today, since this tracked blood levels rather than supplements or food, but it is a reason not to assume tyrosine is a free pass for longevity, especially for men.

What it shows: Suggestive rather than settled: it links naturally circulating blood tyrosine to lifespan in a large group of British adults whose health was tracked over time, backed by a genetic analysis that can only partly rule out other explanations. It says nothing directly about tyrosine supplements or diet, and the picture in women was unclear.Study · Aging (Albany NY)
