The Swedish Sport of Swimrun Is Spreading Across the U.S. I Tried It and Chaos Ensued.

Picture a triathlon with the bike stolen: racers in wetsuits, goggles and running shoes alternate between cold open-water swims and rocky trail runs, and Sweden's Ötillö series has now crossed the Atlantic. Outside's features editor took on the Colorado edition at Horsetooth Reservoir on October 4, bringing 25 years of triathlon and bike racing experience with him. He floundered off course in chilly water, tumbled into a prickly pear cactus and spent part of the race pulling spines out of his backside. He still crossed the line swapping high-fives and hugs with sweaty strangers, and his biggest lesson was to stop taking himself so seriously.

For you: If triathlon has gone stale for you, swimrun now exists on American soil; worth knowing it seems to reward a sense of humour as much as a big engine.
