Vibration plates beat doing nothing, not real training

Across 21 randomised trials covering 748 healthy women, standing on a vibrating platform improved leg strength and power, but almost entirely when the comparison group did no exercise at all. Set against conventional training, the only significant edge it showed was in countermovement jump performance.

For you: If a vibration plate is what gets you moving it is better than nothing, but there is no sign here it outperforms ordinary training for anything except jump performance.

What it shows: Solid as far as it goes: results pooled from 21 trials covering 748 healthy women, and vibration beat doing nothing on most outcomes. Against actual exercise its only edge was jump performance, so the comparison that matters flatters it least.Meta-analysis · PLoS One
