Beetroot juice significantly reduced creatine kinase, with a pooled reduction of 98.67 IU/L against placebo. Muscle function recovered better too: maximal voluntary contraction improved by 8.93%, countermovement jump by 4.72% and pressure pain threshold by 7.22% relative to placebo groups. The inflammatory markers told a different story, as C-reactive protein, interleukin-6 and tumour necrosis factor alpha showed no significant change. The dose-response analysis found a significant non-linear relationship between the daily dose and antioxidant content of the juice and the size of the creatine kinase effect.
