But subjective impressions and objective sleep are famously different things, and what cannabis actually does to the structure of sleep, its stages, its timing and its efficiency, has remained unclear. Older lore holds that THC suppresses REM sleep, the stage tied to dreaming. This review set out to test what the polysomnographic evidence, the gold-standard sleep-lab recordings, really shows.
