Forty-seven trials qualified, contributing a combined cohort of 23,244 patients, and a meta-regression explored which patient characteristics predicted greater benefit.

Compared with placebo, GLP-1 receptor agonists produced a mean weight reduction of 4.57 kg, a mean BMI reduction of 2.07 kg/m2 and a mean waist circumference reduction of 4.55 cm. The greatest benefit appeared to favour patients who were younger, female, without diabetes, with higher starting weight and BMI but lower baseline HbA1c, and who were treated for longer.
