What compression therapy is

Pneumatic compression boots wrap your legs and inflate in a sequence, squeezing from the feet upward. The idea is to move blood and fluid to speed recovery. They've jumped from physiotherapy clinics to athletes' living rooms — along with some overstated claims.

What the evidence shows

Perceived recovery and soreness. Preliminary· human data The most consistent finding is that people feel more recovered and report less muscle soreness after using them. That's a real, if modest, effect.

Next-day performance. Preliminary· human data Whether that translates into measurably better performance the next day is much less clear, with mixed results.

Circulation and swelling. Well-supported· human data Intermittent pneumatic compression has an established medical role (for conditions like lymphoedema and clot prevention). That's a different use from athletic recovery — don't read the medical evidence as proof of a training edge.

Dramatic performance or "detox" claims. Marketing claim Not supported. The boots don't flush toxins or meaningfully boost adaptation.

How to use them
