A systematic review in healthy adults suggests pomegranate supplementation has the potential to improve endurance and strength performance and to speed post-exercise recovery, with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects during and after exercise. Benefits were less likely when products were low in polyphenols or taken an hour or less before testing.

What it shows: Promising rather than proven: a sweep of all the studies on this in healthy adults found potential benefits, but the trials differed in products, doses and tests, so the size of any effect is unclear. Benefits also tended to vanish with low-polyphenol products or when taken within an hour of exercise.Systematic review · Br J Nutr
