Small single trials can easily point in different directions, so pooling them is the only way to see whether curcumin has any consistent effect on this particular hormone. Where it fits
This is a first line of pooled evidence suggesting curcumin can shift adiponectin, which strengthens the case beyond any single trial. But six trials is a slim foundation, and the finding that shorter trials showed bigger effects is puzzling: if the hormone rise were durable, longer supplementation would be expected to show at least as much. The review measured a blood marker, not a health outcome, so whether the change matters for disease risk remains open. The authors themselves call for more research before firm conclusions.
What it means for you
If you already take curcumin, this is evidence that it may be doing something measurable to one hormone in your blood. What it is not, at this stage, is evidence of any health benefit: no outcome such as weight, blood sugar control or disease risk was assessed here. The sensible reading is that curcumin's effect on adiponectin looks real in pooled trial data but limited in scope, and the authors' own caution is worth taking at face value. This is a marker worth watching rather than a reason to change anything.
