Coenzyme Q10 is essential to mitochondrial energy production and acts as an antioxidant. Levels fall with age and with statin use, which frames its main uses.

The more supportive human evidence is in specific settings, as an adjunct in heart failure and for easing statin-related muscle aches (with mixed results), rather than for boosting energy or performance in healthy people. Ubiquinol is the reduced, better-absorbed form; taking either with fat aids absorption.
