Lithium orotate is a low-dose lithium salt sold over the counter for mood and 'brain health', trading on the fact that prescription lithium is an effective mood stabiliser.
But that prescription evidence is at much higher, carefully monitored doses; the low over-the-counter doses have essentially no controlled outcome evidence, and lithium's narrow safety margin normally warrants blood monitoring. Genuine mood disorders are a medical matter, not a case for self-dosing a mineral supplement.
