Tyrosine is an amino-acid precursor to the catecholamines dopamine and noradrenaline. The idea is that under demanding conditions the brain can deplete these, and topping up the precursor may help sustain performance.
The most interesting evidence is for protecting cognition under acute stressors — sleep deprivation, cold, heavy multitasking — rather than boosting a well-rested person. Effects are modest and situational, so treat it as a targeted tool, not a daily cognitive enhancer.
