Choline (bitartrate)
Silver· human dataAlso known as: Choline bitartrate
An essential nutrient for liver and brain; many people under-consume it.
Choline is an essential nutrient used to build cell membranes and the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and to move fat out of the liver. Many people, particularly those eating few eggs or organ meats, fall short of recommended intakes.
Ensuring adequacy is sensible, especially in pregnancy where choline supports fetal brain development. Evidence that supplementing beyond adequacy sharpens cognition or performance in healthy people is weak. Choline bitartrate is a common, inexpensive form; alpha-GPC and citicoline are more brain-targeted.
