Chromium is a trace mineral marketed heavily for blood-sugar control, appetite and weight loss. While it plays a minor role in insulin action, true deficiency is very rare.

Controlled trials of chromium picolinate for weight loss or glucose control are largely unconvincing, showing at best tiny, inconsistent effects. It is a well-marketed mineral whose promises outrun the evidence; a normal diet covers needs.
