MCT oil is made of medium-chain triglycerides, which are absorbed and metabolised quickly and can be turned into ketones, making it popular for fast energy and on ketogenic diets.
Evidence for meaningful fat loss is modest — MCTs may slightly increase energy expenditure and satiety versus other fats, but effects are small and dose is limited by gut upset (cramping, loose stools). It is a useful ketogenic and energy tool rather than a weight-loss solution.
